Catherine V. (Waslosky) Vancas



Mrs. Catherine V. (Waslosky) Vancas, 84, Houtzdale passed away Friday, October 16th, 2009 at her residence.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1924 in Whiteside, RD Houtzdale a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Orlosky) Waslosky.

Mrs. Vancas was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey and worked as a seamstress in various local sewing factories. She also was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.

On Nov. 4, 1950 in the former St. Barbara's Catholic Church, Houtzdale she married Michael J. Vancas who preceded her in death on May 29, 2007.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter; Kenneth M. Vancas and his companion of Laurie Sparks of Osceola Mills, Diane M. Holencik and her husband Thomas of Ramey and Edward A. Vancas and his wife Mary of Osceola Mills.

She is also survived by five grandchildren; Kristopher Vancas, Kelly Hazelton, Susan Holencik, Stephen Holencik and Paul Holencik. Three great grandchildren also survive.

Four sisters survives; Sophie Waslosky of Philipsburg, Anna Drochak of Houtzdale, Mary Surkovich and her husband Vincent of Houtzdale and Lucy Syktich and her husband Michael of DuBois A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. vancas was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Vancas and four brothers, James Waslosky, John Waslosky, Michael Waslosky and Andrew Waslosky.

Friends will be received on Sun. Oct.18 from 5-8 PM and on Mon. Oct. 19 from 8-9:30 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey. A Christian Wake Service will be held on Sunday at 5:00 PM in the funeral home with Fr. Zab Amar officiating.



Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 19 at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey with Fr. Zab Amar as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery Ramey.
