Obituary for Margaret A. Shimel

Margaret A. Shimel, 85, of Houtzdale, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.

Born September 3, 1932 in Houtzdale, she was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Hilda (Hagyard) Hutchinson.

On November 26, 1954, she married Eugene G. Shimel in Winchester, V, who survives.

She graduated from Philipsburg Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as an RN in Williamsport until moving back to Houtzdale. She then worked at Philipsburg State General Hospital until her retirement in 1982.

Margaret was active in the Presbyterian Church of Houtzdale, and the American Legion Auxillary. She and Gene loved to spend time at Glendale Lake fishing and boating.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jonathan and Robert Hutchinson, and an infant.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Dave) Camberg of Glen Hope, a son, Thomas (Lynn) Shimel of Hawk Run, two sisters, Mary (Sam) Sleigh of Brockway, and Hilda Mae Hutchinson of Houtzdale, and a brother, Thomas (Ruthann) Hutchinson of West Chester, five grandchildren, Theresa, Carol, Beth, Dana, and Jonathan, and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Stryker.

Family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 PM and Monday from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Interment will follow in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Houtzdale Presbyterian Church, Centennial and Brisbin Sts, Houtzdale, PA 16651.
