Obituary for Betty Lou Gathagan

Betty Lou Gathagan of Philipsburg, and formerly of Houtzdale, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Geisinger Health Systems, Danville.

Born September 3, 1930 in Beccaria, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Lois (Johnson) Shoff. On January 11, 1954, she married James A. Gathagan, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2000. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis, in 2005.

She is survived by a son Chris, and his wife Debbie, of Pittsburgh, a step-granddaughter, Nicole (Tyler) Sherman of Denver, CO, a sister, Patricia J. Rambo of Williamsport, a brother-in-law Rev. Henry G. (Carol) Gathagan of Dayton, OH, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Betty Lou graduated from Beccaria Twp High School in 1948 and attended Nyack College in Nyack, NY. She attended the First Church of God, Brisbin.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM and Thursday from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Revs. Larry and James Llewellyn will officiate. Interment will follow in Beulah Cemetery, Ramey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edmund’s Academy, 5705 Darlington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15217; or to Mahaffey Camp and Conference Center, P.O. Box 277, Mahaffey, PA 15757.
