Obituary for Stanley P. Fundanish

Stanley P. Fundanish, 95 years old, formerly from Chicago, Illinois passed peacefully on Sunday, July 30th, 2017.
Born on July 12, 1922 in Smoke Run, PA, Stanley was known for his work ethic, compassion for others, wit and love of the rosary. After serving our country during World War II as a signalman on the USS Ashtabula in the Pacific for two years, he returned home to Smoke Run. He was employed in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and then he attended the America Institute for Baking in Chicago. He was the proprietor of C&T Pastries in Park Ridge, IL for 35 years. Getting up to make the donuts every day was his passion. He specialized in decorating wedding cakes. He serviced the airlines and hotels in Chicago. He made dessert for Pope John Paul II during the Pope’s visit to Chicago. He made a birthday cake for a member of the Rolling Stones and he decorated a cake on the popular children’s TV show The TreeTop House. After retirement, Stanley delivered day old pastries from Costco, Pepperidge Farm and Sam’s Club to women’s shelters, homeless shelters and food banks. He was preceded in death by his son, Joel and his daughter, Kirsten. Stanley will be missed by his two daughters, Melissa and Melanie, his granddaughter Emily, his sister, her husband and family, Dorothy and John, his brother Paul and many friends.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 PM and Monday from 10-10:45 AM in Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Parastas will be sung Sunday at 7:30 PM. Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Monday at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey, with Rev. Anthony Balistreri officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Cemetery, Ramey.
