Betty A. (Bunyak) Ponist, 85, of Madera, PA, passed away at 7:15 AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.

Born on February 23, 1930 in Chesterfield, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Duke) Bunyak.

She married the late Paul M. Ponist on September 13, 1947 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Houtzdale.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Josephine Petruna, Kathryn Duke, Leona Shedlock, and Irene Zendek.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Pauline (John) Beirlair of Dubois, and one son, John (Sue) Ponist of Madera; four sisters, Regina Klusak of MD, Anna Joyce of OH, Madeline Taddeo of OH, Theresa Bilinsky of OH; three brothers, Leonard Bunyak of OH, Bernard Bunyak of TN, and Thomas Bunyak of OH.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, John C. Beirlair, Jonathan (Michele) Ponist, and Wendi Ponist; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Ponist, Gabriel Ponist, and John R. Beirlair.

Friends will be received at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Madera on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM.

Funeral prayers will be said Monday at 9:15 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale. Fr. Marc J. Solomon will be celebrant. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Madera, PA.
