Marie Elizabeth "Mary" (Matastasio) Delfosse


Marie Elizabeth "Mary" (Matastasio) Delfosse, 88 , formerly of Smithmill, passed away at 4:35 AM, Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Marie Fleming in Fallentimber.

Born in Altoona on July 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Pietro and Maria (Daversa) Matastasio.

Mary was Catholic by faith and a charter and lifetime member of the Stephen Kandrach VFW Post 6321 Ladies Auxiliary, Smithmill until she transferred to the Richard L. Beers VFW Post 7043 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved her flowers and watching hummingbirds.

On December 1, 1945 in Baltimore, MD she wed John "Jack" Delfosse who preceded her in death on May 9, 1992.

Mary is survived by six daughters and a son; Joanne Fitzhugh and her husband Bruce of Coalport, RD, Barbara Davidson and her husband Denny of Coalport, Jackie Freeman and her husband Roy of Coalport, Michelle Delfosse of Irvona, Marie Fleming, who was also Mary's caregiver in her later years, and her husband Ken of Fallentimber, Cheryl Best and her husband Jeff of Coalport RD, and Michael Delfosse and his wife Marsha of Coalport; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Mary is also survived by a daughter in law, Linda Delfosse of Ashville; numerous nieces and nephews and her extended family, George and Cindy Dick and family of Irvona.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a son, John B. Delfosse on Sept. 27, 2002, a great-grandson, Shane Wong, a sister, Sarah J. Baum and four brothers, John, Dominic, Pietro and Ronald Matastasio.

Friends will be received on Sunday, April 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Monday, April 22 from 9 - 11 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey. The Richard L. Beers VFW Post 7043 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service on Sunday at 7:00 PM in the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 22 at 11:00 AM in the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc Ramey with Rev. Paul Fields officiating. Interment will follow in Allemansville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to: condolences@kruisefuneralhome.com.
