Barbara L. (Clewell) Yaple


Barbara L. (Clewell) Yaple, 84, of Kendrick, RD Houtzdale, passed away at 4:40 AM, Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.

Barbara was born on April 8, 1927 at Berwick, the daughter of the late Frank C. and Grace (Hampel) Clewell. She graduated from the Benton High School in Benton, Columbia County.

Barbara was a member of the Ohio United Methodist Church, Morgan Run. She held a Pennsylvania Beauty Shop License and managed the Yaple Family Dairy from 1968 -1983. She also was secretary for the Clearfield County Cooperative Extension Office and was a past president and secretary of the Clearfield County Farm Bureau. She was a 4 H Leader in Clearfield and Columbia County and founded the Clearfield County Dairy Princess Contest. She also was activity director of the Woodward Twp. Senior Citizen Center.

On April 3, 1948 in Rohrsburg, she married William G. Yaple who survives of Houtzdale.

Barbara is survived by seven children; Gerald W. Yaple and his wife Margaret of Houtzdale; Janice Tekely-Yaple of Osceola Mills; Joyce Ann McElheny of Houtzdale; Jacklyn Cormier and her husband David of Morgantown, WV; Carolyn Lutz and her husband Carl of Shade Gap; Curtis Yaple and his wife Kimberly of Curwensville; and Carl Yaple and his wife Joann of Houtzdale.

She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; Jennifer McCusker and her husband Ben; Gina Mital and her husband John; Gretchen Sinclair and her husband Andy; Bradly Tekely and his wife Angela; Justin Tekely; Scott McElheny; J.D. McElheny and his wife Kelli; Jaime McClellan and her husband Cecil; Heidi Collins and her husband Jeff; Jody Francisco and his wife Laura; Laura Canaca and her husband Jorge; Terra Smith and her husband Mark; Clayton Lutz and his wife Alison; Jason Yaple and his wife Haley; Erica Snyder and her husband Steve; Nathan Yaple; Matthew Yaple and his wife Erica; Alison Jacoby and her husband Josh and Ariana Yaple. Twenty one great grandchildren also survive as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by three brothers; Donald, Jack and Robert Clewell.

Friends will be received on Sunday, Sept. 4 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey and on Monday, Sept. 5 from 12 - 1 PM at the Ohio United Methodist Church, Morgan Run.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 5, at 1:00 PM in the Ohio United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donald Smith officiating.
